Kirk Reflections 8th February 2026.
Revd. Erick du Toit brings this week's reflection from Kirkliston Parish Church, Scotland.
PALACES, PRIVILEGES & POWER
Esther sent back her answer to Mordecai: “Go and get all the Jews living in Susa together. Fast for me. Don’t eat or drink for three days, either day or night. I and my maids will fast with you. If you will do this, I’ll go to the king, even though it’s forbidden. If I die, I die.”
(Esther 4: 15-16)
As we continue our journey through the Book of Esther we reach the climax of the story: will… or will she NOT help the Jews?
Esther is uniquely placed in the citadel, the heart of the city and culture within the Persian Empire. Now she needs to decide. Play it safe, save myself and live a happy life… or risk it all for the sake of those in a compromised and vulnerable position…
We are challenged with that question daily. Jesus calls us to give ourselves away to others. To fight on behalf of those who can’t stand up for themselves. Do we do that enough? Do we hear the cries of the afflicted and broken? Or are we too caught up in our own problems…
