Kirk Reflections 15th February 2026.
Revd. Erick du Toit brings this week's reflection from Kirkliston Parish Church, Scotland.
PRIDE
When Haman saw for himself that Mordecai didn’t bow down and kneel before him, he was outraged. Meanwhile, having learned that Mordecai was a Jew, Haman hated to waste his fury on just one Jew; he looked for a way to eliminate not just Mordecai but all Jews throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes.
(Esther 3:5 MSG)
Pride can be defined as an excessive sense of self-worth or satisfaction in one's own achievements or possessions. It is sometimes associated with terms such as arrogance, egotism, or self-absorption.
Pride affects individuals in various ways, manifesting not only in those who perceive themselves as superior but also in those who feel inferior.
The character Haman serves as the antagonist in the story of Esther and provides a notable example of the consequences of unchecked pride.
Addressing pride is an ongoing challenge that many people face. This week, we discus practical approaches to manage and overcome our pride.
