We’re kicking off 2026 with an age-old question: Are mermaids real, or what??? 

Today, we’re deep diving (pun intended) into the long, tangled history of mermaid folklore, sightings, and modern-day theories. We trace our favorite aquatic friends from the first “real” mermaid in 1000 BC, through famous sailor logs (including a new reason to hate Christopher Columbus), all the way to modern-day sightings. And that’s before we even get to the science part - like how little of the ocean we’ve actually explored, why modern technology wouldn’t spot mermaids, and where mermaids could be living at this very moment.
