直訳すると「くぎの頭を打つ」となります。釘を正確に打ち込むには、ハンマーで釘の頭を真っ直ぐに正確に叩く必要があります。そこから比喩的に、「意見などが的を射ている」という意味で使用されるようになったようですね。
