If you plant a seed, can you cause it to grow? You can fertilize and water it, but yet you are not the source of its growth. No matter how hard you try, you cannot force a seed to grow. Today Jesus teaches us that his Word works the same way. As the good news of the Savior is planted in human hearts, can we cause it to grow? Can we predict or even force spiritual growth or fruit? We cannot, but through his Word, the Lord sends that seed out to create and strengthen faith in human hearts, defying all expectation.
The Bible reading for this message is Mark 4:26-34.
