The Interaction Coach

6.207 PLAY: Movement: Monitor increased movement skills for safety

Listen Later

Your child will master scouting down the stairs backward, and will get better at climbing up onto furniture.

They will learn to move a chair so they can climb up to get things. It’s a big accomplishment in thinking skills. They identify a goal (I want something up there) and a problem (I can’t reach it). They identify a solution (I can move the chair and climb up to get it) and then take action to reach the goal.

Today’s activity: Act as a spotter as your child practices climbing in appropriate places, like on the playground. Encourage them to use solve a problem to reach a goal—like push their chair to the table so they can have dinner.
