The Exorcist (1973) is a movie without reproach.  A vast majority of this show is purely Bobby and Allen gushing about just how much they loved the film.  There are times in the show were we keep the wall up in terms of our opinions on the movie too early on.  This is not one of them.  Whether its the perfect pacing, horrifying imagery, or ominous soundtrack The Exorcist is the perfect possession film.  All other possession films are trying to do what the Exorcist did.  Regardless of that though, we have to answer the all important question.  Is it essential?
