64. Chief Walkara and Sagwitch

Listen Later

Heavenly Messengers visited tribal leaders of Native American people from Canada to Mexico. Entire bands of tribes sought out the leaders of the church seeking the sacred ordinances they were told to obtain, by these heavenly messengers. One of these a Shoshone Chief, Sagwitch, and his wife were sealed in the Endowment house in Salt Lake. His people labored in the construction of the Logan Temple and later served regularly, performing vicarious ordinances for their ancestors. One of Chief Sagwitch’s sons was the first Native American to serve as a full-time missionary for the church. Another spoke in the 1926 LDS conference in the Shoshone tongue. Sagwitch’s grandson was the first Native American to serve as a Bishop in the church. Chief Walkara of the Utes shaky relations with the LDS people settled and he and many of his people were baptized into the church within 2 years of the arrival of the LDS people in the Great Basin. Both these stories demonstrate the Lord’s love and guidance in all His children’s lives. God Love YOU Ask Him.
