Let's face it, we all get discouraged, disillusioned, defeated, and disquieted. This can be especially true for those who preach and pastor. In this episode, we will consider a chapter from Lectures To My Students by Charles Spurgeon. In his chapter entitled The Minister's Fainting Fits of Depression, Spurgeon deals with the preacher's battle with discouragement and depression. There is much help for the preacher in these words from the "Prince of Preachers."

Let's talk about the battle with a melancholy spirit we all fight.

Spurgeon gives us some, but certainly not all, of why we struggle with depression. Here is a brief outline of what we will discuss today.
1. We are men and subject to all human frailties.
2. We all struggle with physical weakness to one degree or another.
3. The work of the ministry itself is exhausting.
4. We tend to be somewhat isolated from others.
5. Our work is sedentary.
