One thing I learned at a very young age was if asked a question by an adult, I was to respond and look them straight in the eyes. But today, that's not what happens. Don't ask me a question you don't want answered.

We are so quick to shut the other person up by our own words. Frankly, it's rude and disrespectful. I don't like it when I do it.

How many time are we stuffing our own thoughts down the throats of others?

We are expecting certain words or statements to come out of their mouth. But instead of waiting to hear what they have to say, we interrupt and interject our own words.

If we are answering our own questions we're asking, then maybe you're in a monologue - a one way street. Instead of listening only to yourself, why not listen to what others say and have a dialogue - a two way street discussion. 

Plus, if you are quick to step on words, are you really interested in what they have to say?

Don't ask me a question you don't want answered.

How do you want your conversations to be? Do you want to be the one controlling the conversation? If so, then just make statements.

How are you conversing with your husband? Your children? Your corporation/business?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Keep your mouth shut and listen!

1. VALUE who they are by listening.
2. AFFIRM them by repeating/paraphrasing what was said.
3. HUG them with your words. Encourage them.
