A lot of relationship conflict is the result of miscommunication. And a lot of societal conflict is the result of “political correctness.” In both cases, the problem is the same: one person or group has one meaning for a word, and another person or group has a different meaning. We get into conflict (drama) when we attempt to impose our meaning onto someone else’s words. Communication breaks down. We each have the responsibility to understand one another—to learn what the other person means when they use a word, before we react in fear or anger. The question, “Who defines what words mean?” pertains to every single relationship on the planet.
