Dr. Kevin Payne lived with a recurrent mystery illness for more than 30 years. It was only correctly diagnosed a65s multiple sclerosis in 2006. During that time, he spent a decade supporting a wife through advanced cancer. In 2019, despite his wonky legs and sketchy central nervous system, he decided to reclaim a lost childhood dream, face his fears of a body that increasingly doesn’t want to cooperate, and become a serious skydiver. He’s earned all the licenses and logged 600 jumps since. As a professional researcher, He’s also devoted the last decade to original research on the question, “how can we experience a great life, even when we’re ‘sick?’” Then he wrote a book, founded a company, and built a curriculum training those diagnosed, loved ones and caregivers, and medical professionals about the many, surprising consequences of life with a chronic illness that no one prepared us for.
