OP honestly thinks an appropriate thing for him to tell his pregnant wife is that she needs to watch what she eats. Then we get an actual good parent defending her daughter from her own fanatically religious mother. Then we swing immediately back to a more usual story of heinous parenting when OP asks if it's okay to keep their own money without forking it over to their parents to re-gift. Then we have a rare "how do I handle my partner being so great?" post.
