Jesus begins his greatest sermon with the instruction of what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like. It is not insignificant that the first of the "Beatitudes" is that a poor spirit is necessary to see and be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven. The humble and contrite heart is the condition of the poor in spirit. For in order to be a part of God's kingdom, only God's righteousness must be present. Therefore, the one who is impoverished spiritually is one who is not righteous but must depend on God's righteousness. "God's grace is more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus." [1 Timothy 1:14]

To be blessed is to be happy. Only God's righteousness through Jesus Christ brings true blessedness.
