I was at a metal bar after seeing a gig. A tall woman sat next to me. I guessed that she came from abroad, and it was her first time at the bar. I wanted to talk to her, but I didn't really know what to say... After hesitating for about 10 minutes, I finally asked her in English. "What's your favorite band?" She answered, "I'm Japanese." , in Japanese, and she continued in a low whisper, "I'm afraid to tell you, but I'm transgender. So are you sure you still want to talk to me? I answered immediately "Oh I don't mind at all! You are a metal fan, just like me. So we can be metal friends, right?" She and I were the same age and we had the same favorite bands. We talked rapid fire about metal music. A bartender even said to us, "You guys seem like old friends!" , which made us giggle like schoolgirls. After all the metal talk, she started telling me about her personal life.
"To tell the truth... I live with my family. Although they aren't metal fans, they always come to metal concerts with me. I came out to them as transgender, but I don't want to shock anyone, so I usually change back into men's clothing in the garage before I enter my house. So, I'm still kind of pretending to be a man at home."
I feel a lot of sympathy for these people, and I agree with them. I think it's good to be true to yourself, and it makes the world more interesting to have people with many different lifestyles. I just hope that everyone can be happy.
