Welcome to the very first episode of Brain Squeeze — your go-to drop of juice for what’s happening right now!
In this episode, I introduce what Brain Squeeze is all about and why I created this space to think out loud and process culture in real time. I recap the 68th Grammy Awards, share a few of my favorite moments from the night, and talk about artists who used their acceptance speeches to speak out against injustice.
After getting a text that made me pause, it led me to wonder a bigger question: who do we expect to speak up in moments like this — and is it really an artist’s responsibility to do so every time they’re handed a mic?
I reflect on the pressure placed on Black artists to always lead these conversations, and question if that's a fair expectation.
