Join 6AMRun.com Ambassador and Host, Marc Paisant, as we welcome co-founder of the Black Runners Connection group - James Ravenell.
In January 2015, a group of Black Marathoners connected for a Meet and Greet during Miami Marathon. After the event they decided to keep in touch via a FaceBook group. The name has changed, but our Family has only grown stronger.
The purpose of this group is to increase the number of Blacks in Distance Running and improve their overall health in the process. There is only one rule for the group: "Be kind to your fellow runners!" This is an Equal Opportunity group which means you don't HAVE to be Black to be a member. However, we will check to see that you're a runner. They accept runners of all levels and terrains (Beginner to Pro, Road, Track or Trail, etc.)
Since James began running (later than most) he has wanted to infuse joy and passion into running for the black community. He understands the importance behind having "a cause" for running but he wants to open the space for blacks and other minorities to just run.
