#7: Its OK to NOT be OK

Listen Later

In this episode I talk to "Jane Doe" as she wanted to remain anonymous. Jane is young and wanted to tell her story, but is still working through the trauma. In 2017 at the age of 15, she moved to her fathers house. What you need to know is, her father was not involved too much in her life and she has never lived with him or spent any amount of time with him, It had been on her mind for years to connect with her father. The abuse started very quickly and in her own words, "I was so naive, and didn't see it or I would pretend it didn't happen". Being so young, she thought she was to blame. He would scream at her in her face, verbal abuse and touching inappropriately. Is this really what a father does? NO! absolutely NOT! Jane tried to make it a point to stay out of his way and thought his current wife would step in and stop it. Two years later, he hit her so hard she fell to the floor, that is when he got on top of her and she was so scared she was going to be raped...by her FATHER! HIs wife pulled him off but she blamed Jane for it when she had done nothing wrong. When children, no matter how old, are abused by adults who are supposed to protect them from harm, their ability to trust and rely on adults is shattered. Knowing that the abuser is liked - or even loved-by other family members makes it all the more difficult for children to tell others about the abuse. They are more likely to blame themselves. Jane got out, she is healing with therapy and is on the path to help others heal. She is a survivor and an inspiration! As hard as it may be to report sexual abuse that has been done by a family member, it is the best thing to do to heal you and your entire family.
