7: Save for Impact, Not Just Retirement with Edward Robinson

Listen Later

While your business may be providing for your needs today, it is important to invest for the future. Most solo-entrepreneurs miss that aspect of financial planning.

Whether that future be slowing down, retirement, or another economic upheaval that will challenge the strength of your business financial planning is critical to business health.

Today we are joined by Edward Robinson who is a Financial Advisor with Thrivent. Thrivent is a Christian company who has served in the financial space for over 100 years. As a pastor of a church plant in 2014 Edward realized that money shortages always seem to find their way into life.

Driven by need and then by passion Edward pursued his financial education and has been helping others learn how to make their money to work for them.

A key difference in how Edward guides his clients is in the purpose that investing is not just about the money you save for retirement, it’s about the impact you can have on the lives of other people. More than just a Portfolio Planner, he is a Financial Planner looking at all aspects of your financial health.

If you want a Financial Advisor who values the same Christian values you do and will not fight with giving money to your church, Edward might be a good fit for you.

In this episode we discuss

Your age will determine your strategy

  • 40 years focus on protection and assets
  • 40-50 years focus on having enough income for retirement
  • Retirement age focus on having enough, leaving a legacy, and being generous

Money is a great servant, but a cruel master. You must master your money, or it will master you.

Common mistakes in finances

  1. Not saving enough
  2. Being under protected
  3. Not enough cash flow

As business owners we need to get out of survival mode. We have to work hard so we have something to share with those who have needs.

1 Timothy 5:8 we are to provide for our own. Taking care of our household means more than just your spouse and children.

A Portfolio Planner works to get you a good return on your money. A Financial Planner does the same but also helps you establish a budget, get appropriate insurance, estate planning, and looks at the overall health of your financial area of life.
