Digging Deeper Questions:

  • What are some initial reactions women have to the word doctrine

  • Define doctrine.

  • Why does doctrine matter?

  • How have you seen unhealthy doctrine or a lack of sound doctrine play out in the local church or in your life or others you know?

  • Where have you picked up the “doctrines” that most influence your life (school, media, family members, experiences, church, mentors, books)? Are these wise, godly sources?

  • How has sound doctrine impacted the way you live?

  • What are some of the “contaminants” that women today may be taking into their hearts and minds? Where and how can we get pure, clean water for our souls?

  • What difference will Titus 2 women with “soft hearts, sharp minds, and backbones of steel” make in our world?

  • Fill in the blank: The Greek word translated “sound” (as in sound doctrine) is hugiaino. It’s the term from which we get our English word ____________.

  • When we are concerned about a woman who is swimming or dabbling into doctrinally polluted waters, how can we share sound doctrine with her in love?

  • Read James 5:19-20 and note the implications.

  • List some things that sound doctrine teaches us.

  • Fill in the blank: The teaching of sound doctrine was so foundational to Paul’s thinking that he actually included this phrase _______ times in the three New Testament letters known as his “pastoral epistles” (1 and 2 Timothy and Titus). _________ of those instances are in Titus, alone.

  • What passage of Scripture teaches us that “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”?

  • Does your current doctrine require, motivate, and enable you to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, or does your doctrine fight against text-driven living?

  • Is lack of an appetite for sound doctrine new to this age (see 2 TImothy 4:3-4 to help you answer)?

  • What steps do you need to take now to deepen your grasp of God’s Word and to saturate your mind, heart, and life with sound doctrine? What is keeping you from knowing God more (no excuse, whether noble or not, is worth it)?
