#72: Ladies' Night: Shangri La

Listen Later

The ladies have taken over the WriteLab Studio! #godsavedthelotus by recruiting Spud, The G, and Mint (the Fifth Beatle) for an evening of patriarchy-punching mayhem. Stories feature Love is Blind (but even more dystopian); a dream of life lost for capitalism; a love story to cars and the back seat; and dark magic friendship stones.
From From Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable:
Shangri La. The hidden Buddhist lama PARADISE described in James Hilton’s Lost Horizon (1933). He based it on the myth of an earthly Buddhist paradise in Tibet called Shambhala, where people lived long lives and there. was no war or famine. In 1942 the name was adopted as a code name for the US aircraft carrier Hornet, from which the great air raid on Tokyo was launched on 18 April. In 1945 it was further applied by President Roosevelt to CAMP DAVID in order to avoid identifying its location. The name is now applied to any imagined earthly paradise or idyllic utopia, even (with a touch of irony) a suburban one.
Stories begin around the 23:10 mark.
And, because they made me do it, this is your reminder that #girlspoop
