The World Cup ended last night. The event operators should be watching opens Thursday.

Glasgow's Commonwealth Games start 23 July, and the booking data is a case study in event demand:

→ Supply UP 15% (roughly 770 new listings)
→ Occupancy UP 9 points to 59%
→ Nightly rates UP 73%
→ Hotels averaging £334 a night vs £138 for the same dates last year

Now the contrast. The FIFA World Cup pushed US host city rates up 55%, but occupancy FELL 5.1 points. Knockout matches decided days out meant fans simply stayed home.

Glasgow is the opposite: a compact event, fixed schedules, four venues in an eight mile corridor, and a crowd that was 96% domestic last time the city hosted. Guests book early because they can.

And note the regulatory backdrop. Scotland has one of the strictest short-let licensing regimes in Europe. Glasgow considered waiving it for the Games and didn't. Supply still grew 15%, and the premium is flowing to licensed, professional operators.

The lesson for your calendar: certainty fills rooms. Price hardest where demand books early, not where the headlines are biggest.
