The Armenian Genocide was a horrific event that occurred between 1915 and 1923 in the Ottoman Empire, then a part of the modern-day Republic of Turkey. During this time, over one million Armenians were killed in what is considered one of the most extreme examples of ethnic cleansing in history. The genocide was a result of a coordinated effort by the Ottoman government to eliminate the Armenian population from their homeland.
