75. Am I Pushing My Child Too Much?

Listen Later

Should you push your child—or trust that they'll get there in their own time?

It's one of the hardest questions parents face, especially when our children develop differently from those around them. Whether it's social confidence, independence, learning or everyday life skills, it can be difficult to know when to step in, when to offer support and when to simply wait.

In this episode, Becka shares a deeply personal story about her son navigating an important milestone on his own. Together, we reflect on what it means to support a child without taking over, how fear and comparison can quietly shape our parenting, and why meeting each child where they are often requires us to let go of our own expectations.

We also explore neurodivergence, intrinsic motivation and the difference between preparing our children for life's challenges and pushing them before they're ready. Because perhaps our role isn't to decide the pace of our children's development—but to become thoughtful partners as they find their own way.

Some of the questions and ideas we discuss include:

  • Am I pushing my child too much?
  • How do I know when to step in—and when to wait?
  • Supporting neurodivergent children without taking over
  • Why comparison creates unnecessary fear
  • The difference between preparing children and pushing them
  • Trusting your child's own pace while offering the support they need
