Tamara Suarez Porras is an artist, writer, and educator from Brooklyn, NY living in Berkeley, CA. Photography is her nucleus but around it are installation, filmmaking, writing, sculpture, and performance. She explores the fluid relationships of time, memory, and history through a photo-conceptual, research-centric practice. Her academic research interests currently center on photo-based artists who engage with archival practices to re-center histories.
She has exhibited nationally, including at the Brooklyn Museum, School at the International Center of Photography, En Foco Touring Gallery, and Deitch Projects in New York City, as well as fusedspace and Embark Gallery in San Francisco, CA. Her writing has been published on Art Practical and contemporary. She has also taught at many esteemed universities.
She also recently released that which we cannot ever expect to see – a series of poetic assemblages that consider photography’s relationship to the universe – published by Sming Sming Books.
