75- Weekly Updates (February 1-5, 2021)

Dear Parents,

We’re going to have a great upcoming week. Below is a short description of what’s coming up and important links and/or announcements:

Mr. Gray’s Class Podcast

Valentine’s Day → no food even individually wrapped food

Bring gifts on Thursday February 4th

If you bring gifts/cards/trinkets you must bring something for every student in our class

I can give out the class list for purpose. Simply have your child come ask me for one.

Gifts will sit in class until Friday, February 12th and then kids will take them home.

Global School Play Day Wednesday, February 3rd

Reader’s Workshop

The kids will continue deeply studying a character of their choosing this week. We will work on a project all week where the kids will make resources for studying their character including a website dedicated to the character.

Writer’s Workshop

The kids will finish and publish their first of 3 literary essays. Then they will start thinking about and crafting their second literary essay. If you haven’t yet discussed their literary essay with them, please do. There is some great analysis happening in our class.

Math

What happened to math class?

We will continue our expressions and equations unit. We will study the distributive property using algebraic expressions and exponents. We will have a Mid-Unit Test on Wednesday. It will cover everything we’ve done in this unit so far: solving equations, evaluating expressions, writing expressions using percentages, and the distributive property.

History

The kids will begin a study of Ancient China!

Science

The kids will work with Miss Stevens in science lab.
