78. Obedience: When Waiting Becomes the Greater Response

Listen Later

Rebecca Pratt and Deb Baliko were asked by a listener, “Can you share a story, from working in Africa, where the Lord asked you to be obedient and it bared fruit?”

Rebecca recounts a deeply moving encounter with a severely malnourished eight-month-old baby weighing just 4.7 pounds. Faced with the urgent instinct to intervene directly, she instead chose to follow what she believed was God’s prompting. That decision set off a chain of events—through local staff and consistent medical care—that not only saved a life but sparked a broader cultural shift. Mothers in the community began learning how to properly nourish their children, leading to lasting impact beyond a single child.

Deb reflects on her own experiences preaching in West Africa, emphasizing the importance of listening to God’s voice and acting in obedience—even when it doesn’t align with instinct or logic. She also speaks to the power of personal testimony in ministry, and how sharing lived experiences can open hearts and bring hope.

Sometimes the most impactful response isn’t immediate action—but faithful obedience that allows a greater solution to unfold.
