The Battle of Hastings is one of the most significant battles in English history, as it marked the end of the Anglo-Saxon rule of England and the beginning of Norman rule. The battle took place on October 14th, 1066, near the town of Hastings in Sussex, England. The battle pitted the Anglo-Saxon forces of King Harold II against the Norman forces of William the Conqueror.
