Around the World with Mr. Clark

#79: Bhutan, the world's last Shangri-la

Listen Later

Bhutan is maybe the most isolated country in the world. Radio broadcasts began in 1973 and TV and Internet did not arrive until 1999. Getting there is difficult -- and there's a $100 tax per day for just being in the country.

Is Bhutan’s tourism tax an elitist ruse or the blueprint for the future of sustainable travel? Host Clark Vandeventer thinks that question misses the point.
