In this week's episode, we talk with Dr. Steven Hayes. Steven is a psychology professor at the University of Nevada, and the founder of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is practiced by tens of thousands of therapists all around the world. After experiencing his first full-blown panic attack in the middle of a meeting, Steve tried all the conventional methods. He tried calming himself down, he tried thinking "positively", and avoiding his fear... but nothing seemed to work. That's when Steve took things into his own hand, which lead him to create ACT. Now ACT not only helped him, but also helped millions of people across a wide range of mental problems: From addiction, to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and even chronic pain. In today's episode, we talk about
- Why your mental health is just as important as your physical health
- The capacity of the mind and how to work with it
- Why our thoughts are so automatic and convincing
- His 6-step process to get from problem solving mindset to peace of mind
- How acceptance and forgiveness can help you through mental struggles
- How to become your own best cheerleader everyday you wakeup
- Why we need modern minds in this modern world
