The July jobs report came out last week, and the numbers were unexpectedly strong.  The unemployment rate edge down to 3.5%.

But the labor force participation rate actually decreased slightly in July to 62.1% and is still well below its pre-pandemic level of 63.4%.

According to a report conducted by Paychex and IHS Markit, hiring at small companies slowed in July for the fifth consecutive month.

The US Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act along a party line vote, with all Democrats in favor and all Republicans opposed.

Numerous small business groups have expressed opposition to the bill.  One of the provisions that has them upset:  Growing the IRS by estimated 87,000 new employees.
