In this episode, we discuss the expression “coming out of the closet”. Although the expression is a metaphor to describe LGBTQ people’s self-disclosure of their sexual orientation or of their gender identity, Japanese people have started to use the expression with an altered meaning, to simply disclose a secret to the public. We discuss the historical origin of the expression as well as the potential moral implications of the alteration.  

エピソード8では、「カミングアウト(性的傾向の公然化)」について話しました。日本において「カミングアウト」という言葉は、自身の過去の失敗や秘密の暴露・告白として等、広義で使われることが多くあります。カミングアウトの語源の由来、及び言葉の意味の変遷が社会に与えうる影響についても意見を交わしました。
