Motherhood on the Move

8: Do I Need a Mentor?

Listen Later

Think mentorship is just about coffee chats and LinkedIn endorsements? Think again. In this week's episode, I unpack the real magic of mentorship - the good, the awkward, and the "wait, you're mentoring me?" moments.

I'm sharing a few stories about how mentorship showed up for me in unexpected ways - sometimes it was a boss, sometimes it was a peer, sometimes it was someone who didn’t even realize they were mentoring me. I'm introducing some characters who had a MAJOR influence on my career - each at very different junctures - and how I serendipitously (and unexpectedly) met them all. The mentors in my life all fundamentally shaped my career in both big and small ways. And the truth is I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't meet them.

If you’ve ever had someone believe in you before you believed in yourself - or you want to be that person for someone else - this one’s for you.

Key takeaways:

- Mentorship is essential for professional growth.

- Finding a mentor can be a serendipitous experience.

- Mentorship benefits both the mentor and mentee.

- Accountability partners can enhance personal development.

- Networking is crucial in finding mentors.

- Mentorship can come from various relationships, not just formal ones.

- It's important to ask questions and learn from others.

- Consider business coaching for further growth.

- Self-reflection is key to understanding future goals.

- Mentorship should be a two-way street, benefiting both parties.
