This site in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie was the former Delta Marsh Field Station, an environmental education and research facility of the University of Manitoba. Established in 1966 by Jennifer M. Shay, it was based around Mallard Lodge, a two-storey hunting lodge built in 1932 by Winnipeg businessman Donald H. Bain. The facility closed permanently in 2011 due, in part, to flood damage sustained during unusually high water levels on adjacent Lake Manitoba.
