If you missed the previous episode (episode 7: The Danger of Not Trusting Yourself), please listen to episode 7 first. As episode 8 is a continuation of episode 7. In episode 7 we focused on Deborah’s relationship with her husband where she felt constantly marginalized, and made to feel less than. What kept her from leaving the relationship or really standing up for herself was the fear of instability that she would feel if she left his financial security. And this was doubly tormenting for her since she saw as teen her single mother struggle day in and day out to support a family all on her own since her father struggled with infidelity and being there for the family during that time. What ultimately gave her a sense of peace was giving her inner child that stability she desperately craved in her adult life.
Me and Kay coached Deborah and her mother Cookie in Cookie’s home. Cookie was separated from her husband for a long time but in recent years, Cookie chose to go back living with her husband, Deborah’s father. And you will soon see, what suddenly came up in the session was Deborah’s desire to say certain things to her father that she had never talked him about.
Since the recording took place in Cookie’s home, Deborah’s father was in his room the whole time we were recording. So we took this wonderful opportunity for them to have this long awaited conversation. This is an extremely rare conversation that all families across the world need to have. Family trouble is something we normally brush under the rug because it’s too painful to deal with. And I’m telling you this moment between a father and his daughter was priceless to witness.
