Musashi was a ronin—a masterless samurai—in Japan, living from 1584 to 1645. He is widely regarded as the most legendary swordsman in history, with an unmatched dueling record of 61 victories and no defeats. Beyond his prowess with the sword, Musashi was also a thoughtful writer and philosopher. His renowned work, The Book of Five Rings, continues to be published and studied around the world.
