81. Answers are Worthless

When you are trying to help a client or team member, it's tempting to think that having all of the answers is what will help them.  What if that wasn't true though?  What if the power to help people was actually in your ability to ask questions instead of rattling off everything you know?

On this episode, Eric Forney and Michael Bounds break down why they feel answers are worthless, and questions are everything.  They share stories from conversations they've had with people where asking questions helped both the person they were talking to, and themselves.  They discuss different approaches to different questions, and how "what" questions can be more approachable than "why" questions.  In keeping with last week's episode on empathy, they conclude that when you are present in a conversation and asking good questions, you are actually engaging empathetically with your client or team member.
