Rachael’s Aha Moment: In the fall of 2012, she was going through a mentorship that allowed her to explore different types of photography. Her mentor continued to tell her that she should go into wedding photography, which was something she logically thought she didn’t want to do. It wasn’t until her mentor continued to repeat back to her what Rachael was saying that she realized she needed to make the switch to wedding photography. While it wasn’t in her plan, it became her passion. Sometimes what you think you want isn’t what you need.

Technique for Getting Work Done: Rachael recently got rid of her laptop and only uses her desktop for work. This requires her to really concentrate and focus on the task at hand and not get distracted by her surroundings.

The Boudoir Experience:

  • Hair and makeup are included in the experience, because when you’re going into a boudoir session, you want to feel pampered and relaxed. This typically takes about an hour.
  • In preparation of the shoot, Rachael keeps champagne on hand, burns candles, and plays music to create a very boutique experience
  • Rachael suggests that her clients bring a variety of items to wear, but always make sure it is something they feel comfortable in. Comfort is key to shooting boudoir photography. Rachael will go through the bag with them to pick out three outfits based on queues (facial expressions, etc.) they provide will looking through it.
  • The shoots typically last about an hour, but that includes outfit changes and conversations to help the client feel comfortable.
