I've personally attended over 10 C&P exams and not one of them made me feel comfortable...  However, there are some specific actions you can take to prepare to win your VA C and P Exam and get the VA benefits you’ve earned for your honorable service.

The C&P examiner is NOT your friend… 3. You must know what’s in your Medical Records, Personal Statements & Buddy Letters 4. Review any Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs) / Nexus Letters 5. Deep-dive: CFR Title 38, Part 4, the Schedule for Rating Disabilities 6. Do NOT have your best day…this does NOT mean to lie/stretch the truth! 7. Be “UNCOMFORTABLY VULNERABLE…”  8. Mental Health Conditions: Occupational/Social Impairment + Symptoms! 9. Any Other Conditions: Pain/Limitation of Range of Motion + Symptoms! 10. How was your disability caused/made worse by your active-duty service?

***How will I know if I got a favorable C&P exam?***  A favorable VA C&P exam will contain a “Nexus” statement, which at a minimum should state, “at least as likely as not” due to a veteran’s military service or another service-connected disability for secondary service connection.  If you see any statement such as “less likely” or “not likely” this is a signal that you had an unfavorable C&P exam and could be denied VA disability benefits.

***What should I do if I had a bad C&P exam?***  The good news is you can get a new exam, but you must take some specific actions to make that happen.  #1. Immediately call the VA general phone number at 1-800-827-1000, speak to a representative, complain, and ask him/her to make a note in your record for the VA regional office in your state.   #2. Write a Memorandum of Record (MFR) and upload it to VA.gov right after after your bad c and p exam (Stick to the facts: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How)  #3: Call the White House VA Hotline and ask for a new C&P exam: 1-855-948-2311. Calls are answered by a live agent 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.    #4. If all else fails, consider writing your State Congressman and/or Senator.
