Send us a text

In this episode I talk about mishandling a Bible story. This is something we should never do. This is something we try hard not to do. But there are times when we handle the stories in the Bible in ways we should not. There are several ways in which we can do this, and I mention several in this episode.

What follows is a brief list.

  1. Skip the story
  2. Flip the story
  3. Moralize the story
  4. Transform the story into a lecture
  5. Over-reveal the story too early
  6. Flatten the story
  7. Lose the story
  8. Leave out important details
  9. Change the context of the story
  10. Blur the moral of the story
  11. Add elements to the story that don't fit
  12. Use a selective interpretation of the story
  13. Present the story as a myth or legend
  14. Make the story about yourself instead of the characters
  15. Ignore the original audience of the story
  16. Make up details or embellish the story
  17. Use the story to support a particular agenda

What other ways can we mishandle a text? I would enjoy hearing your take on this issue.
