#89 Nuts | Why They’re Important to Our Health

Today we’re going to be talking about the health benefits of nuts and we’re going to dispel some things here. A lot of people think that because nuts have fat, they make you fat, or that nuts are bad because they contain mycotoxins and defense compounds that can damage your health, and that’s absolutely not true. Nuts are one of Nature’s gifts to us. They contain amazing amounts of bioactive compounds and they’re really good for health.

“The chemical structure of phytosterols are a little more soluble in the bloodstream, and so they’re preferentially taken up. It’s like standing in a line and you have the fast pass and the normal line. Phytosterols are in the fast pass line, and so when we eat phytosterols and we have them in our gut, phytosterols continually move in the bloodstream and cholesterol stays put. That’s one reason why nuts are really good at lowering cholesterol.” 3:41
