Kathleen Glasgow is the author of the New York Times bestselling novel Girl in Pieces, as well as How to Make Friends with the Dark and You’d Be Home Now (which drops 9/28/21). I first picked up Girl In Pieces at an airport. (I find the best books at the airport). I was mesmerized from the first page. Kathleen portrays beautifully complex characters dealing with kind of trauma that is often hidden away from view and not talked about. She gives us insight into what it feels like to be a young adult, trying to figure out the world and your place in it, all while dealing with very grown-up issues (e.g. self-harm, substance abuse, recovery). If you're a parent, you must read Kathleen's books. You will understand better (perhaps, remember?) what it's like to be a teen, not a child but not yet an adult. You'll also come away with a new appreciation and empathy for humanity. You might become a better parent, too.
