In their best-seller “Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In,” first published in 1981, authors Roger Fisher, William Ury, and Bruce Patton outline several tactics key to successfully reaching a deal.

Avoid what the authors call “trench warfare,” which is when both sides stake out a position early on and then defend it fiercely, reluctant to make concessions.

Remember that people negotiate, and people are not purely rationale beings.  We have emotions and we are subjective.
