Derek is 28 and he has spent the last 3 winters in Jordan, Iraq, and Greece in refugee camps. He teaches refugees how to grow their own food. He has embarked on this endeavor on his own dime and with seemingly little direction other than his own ambition to do good. He tells of a terrifying experience in Europe, helps paint a picture of what is really going on in refugee camps, and he gave me a wonderful new appreciation for my country.
