Professor Magnus Resch is a respected influencer in the art world, both as an academic and entrepreneur. At the age of 20 he co-ran an art gallery in Switzerland to finance his university career. In 2012 he co-founded Larry’s List, the world’s premier art collector platform. In 2016 he launched the Magnus app, which works like Shazam for Art. Leonardo DiCaprio is an investor and advisor to the company. Magnus’career was the subject of a Harvard Business School case study, which is taught in the MBA class every year since 2018.
Magnus is passionate about the economics of the art market. He is author of several books on the art market, teaches art economics at Yale University, previously at Columbia University, New York, and published in 2018 a paper about success in art in the world’s leading academic journal, Science.
Magnus has a track record as tech entrepreneur. At the age of 27, he became Managing Director of Springstar, a Berlin-based internet incubator (2500 employees and $2bn revenue). Here he started, failed and exited several internet start-ups.
Magnus studied business at Harvard, the London School of Economics, the University of St. Gallen and Hong Kong University. He holds a PhD in Economics, and was awarded scholarships by both the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Swiss National Foundation. Magnus was a soldier in the German Army (Hochzug, Mittenwald), and for twelve years stadium speaker at an ATP Tennis Championship. In 2014 he was awarded Germany’s most prestigious social media prize “The Golden Umberto” for his infamous “Idautit” viral video.
Magnus lives and works in New York City.
