Ransom
The price paid for the redemption of a captive person, mortgaged property or debt; the act of solving a problem with money. Used most often as the positive representation of redemption (ex: Exodus 21:30, ‘sum of money’; Numbers 35:31-32, Isaiah 43:3, ‘ransom’). In the New Testament, Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45 describe ransom as the “payment of money.”
