The citizen of Western Missouri paid a heavy price for the persecution of the Saints in their area. Joseph Smith told General Doniphan that the Lord’s wrath hung over Jackson County and he would live to see it visited with fire and the sword. Twenty years later Doniphan recounted the prophet’s prediction as he viewed the complete devastation of Western Missouri. The Word of the Lord is sure.
