This movie was being discussed at our BLM meeting and I thought I would summarize it in my own way.
You know how hard it is to get into Stuyvesant?
Top HS in New York, so you better listen,
That’s what my parents said to me, so it had to be,
Now, I’m taking a film class with Mr. Sawicki,
Haha, takin pics all day with that Yashica – cam,
Skaters flippin over garbage cans, ya’ll wish I can,
but I can’t. It’s all good tho, cuz I’mma make movies
Rene wants in and soon there’ll be a line of groupies
Damn she’s so fine, all day and everytime
I’m with her my mind unwinds
pinch me cause I mighta met the divine.
Then one day this balluh, asks me to pull up
My stomach sank low, and pushed my chest up
I coulda walked away and just been punk
But instead
I just took some shots of him trynna dunk
In this city, 5-0 be mad shady
Arrest you for walking, talking, spittin,
shh anything!
One day – that day
He asked me to check out the bodega
Those 93 steps
changed my life foreva
Saw the news, - dude’s dead
Damn, why’d I have to mess with King?
Why’d I let him get to my head?
Ding Dong
Are you Steven Harmon?
Uhh yeah….
You have the right to remain….
Now I’m detained
rockin’ the orange and white stripes
The dude in next cell yells all night in fright!
I’m not suppose to be here man, I’m innocent
yeah we all innocent, just take a glimpse
When I make call, they bully me off
I don’t eat,
So when they take my lunch, I don’t feel the loss
They ain’t no room for gray in this court,
I’m black and she’s white ‘n she tryn’ to support
And defend another black kid
or should I say monster?
That’s all you see, automatically
But that’s not me, I never pulled the heat,
Will you believe me or do I accept defeat?
This jury don’t know me, they don’t know my story
You know the difference between innocent and guilty?
Standin’ strong on your own truth ya feel me?
