98: What Dating Apps Teach Us About Gendered Racialization and Desire

Listen Later

In this research-based episode, I explore what it means to be a Black woman navigating online dating in a world where algorithms aren’t neutral, preferences aren't personal, and desire is often shaped by centuries-old stereotypes.

Drawing from the 2024 study From the Auction Block to the Tinder Swipe, I discuss how racial fetishization shows up in digital dating spaces—and what Black women are expected to carry emotionally and relationally just to be seen, safe, and loved.
