In this episode of Straight To The Point, Paul and Tyler dive into the National Cemetery Administration burial process and benefit that is available to veterans. Preparing for the inevitable is always a task many avoid but it is essential to getting your affairs in order for not only yourself but for your loved ones as well.
The National Cemetery Administration oversees and maintains 130 national cemeteries for veterans. For a veteran to be eligible for burial within one of these cemeteries it is recommended to visit https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/pre-need-eligibility/ and complete the Pre-Need Eligibility Determination to see if you qualify for a burial in one of the national cemeteries.
If a veteran is buried within one of these national cemeteries their family members will be able to be comforted that their loved one's final resting place will be maintained in perpetuity. For the ceremonies that accompany a burial those can be arranged by your funeral director through DOD.
To learn more call the National Scheduling Office at 800-535-1117
If you decide to not apply and go with a private cemetery there is a burial benefit however it is well below what it costs for normal burial expenses.
